1. ECPD: Man charged for firing gun on Parsonage Street (wavy.com) — Elizabeth City police arrested a 36-year-old man after shots were fired late Sunday night in the 700 block of Parsonage Street, where officers found shell casings and a handgun in a nearby vehicle. The suspect faces charges including driving while impaired, open container, and discharging a firearm within city limits, and is being held at Albemarle District Jail as the investigation continues.
2. City officials: Squirrel the cause of widespread power outage Wednesday morning (reflector.com) — A squirrel that damaged equipment at the Catalina electrical substation caused a widespread Wednesday morning power outage affecting much of Elizabeth City, from downtown to the River Road area and several public schools. City crews worked to restore electricity, with River Road regaining power around 8:15 a.m. and officials expecting full restoration downtown by mid-morning.
3. Elizabeth City police issue warning following reports of loitering at local Walmart (wavy.com) — Elizabeth City police are warning parents and teens that loitering will no longer be allowed in the Walmart Supercenter parking lot on Tanglewood Parkway after a reckless incident involving an overturned vehicle. Store management has asked officers to charge anyone found loitering or trespassing, and police are urging parents to closely monitor where their children are spending time.
4. Elizabeth City State University and Lenoir Community College Expand Pilot Training Pathway in 2026 (afm.aero) — Elizabeth City residents connected to Elizabeth City State University now have an expanded pathway to aviation careers thanks to a new co-admission agreement with Lenoir Community College. LCC aviation students can co-enroll at ECSU, complete bachelor's degrees on campus or online, and access ECSU's FAA-certified flight training at the Global TransPark, strengthening aviation education and workforce opportunities across eastern North Carolina.
