• Fayetteville police grant for K-9s draws concerns over ICE provisions (fayobserver.com) — Fayetteville's City Council has accepted a $112,795 federal grant to replace three aging police K-9s and buy new body armor plates, despite one member's concerns about attached anti-DEI and immigration-enforcement conditions. Police and city officials say similar provisions appear in many grants, while residents should know the money will upgrade officer safety gear and maintain K-9 capabilities in local policing.
• Fayetteville State lands record $10M Defense Department grant for AI research (abc11.com) — Fayetteville State University just secured a record $10 million Defense Department grant to build a new AI-focused Ph.D. program, positioning Fayetteville as a potential defense innovation hub. Local leaders say the five-year investment could attract high-tech employers, support Fort Liberty's mission, and create advanced career paths so students can study, work, and stay in the Fayetteville area.
• Pilgrim's, Darling Ingredients win 2026 Clean Water Awards (wattagnet.com) — A Fayetteville poultry rendering plant operated by Darling Ingredients has won a national Clean Water Award for its wastewater pretreatment system and conservation efforts. The facility treats and reuses large volumes of water, upcycles food byproducts, and has earned repeated praise from the city for stormwater compliance, reflecting positively on Fayetteville's environmental stewardship and industrial standards.
