Bladen County residents invited to join Walk to End Alzheimer's (bladenjournal.com) — Fayetteville residents can join the Walk to End Alzheimer's at Segra Stadium on Oct. 24, with check-in at 9 a.m. and the opening ceremony at 10. The event raises money and awareness for care, research, and support services, and welcomes individuals, families, and teams from across the region to register, volunteer, or sponsor.
2. Things To Do in Fayetteville This Weekend: September 25-September 27 (foxy99.com) — Fayetteville's upcoming weekend is packed with local options, from the 48th Annual International Folk Festival at Festival Park to the free North Carolina Home Expo at the Crown Complex. Downtown will also host a Dolly Parton tribute Fourth Friday, plus a race at Cape Fear Botanical Garden and a poetry slam on Hay Street, giving residents plenty of ways to get out and connect.
3. Cumberland County To Host Oct. 1 Vigil Honoring Domestic Violence Victims (foxy99.com) — Fayetteville residents are invited to a Remember My Name vigil Oct. 1 at 5:30 p.m. on the Cumberland County Courthouse steps to honor domestic violence victims statewide. Alongside the ceremony, organizers are highlighting a wide range of local hotlines, legal aid, and law enforcement contacts so anyone facing abuse in Fayetteville and nearby communities can find immediate help.
4. Woodpeckers are Carolina League baseball champions (salemtimes-register.com) — Fayetteville baseball fans just saw history, as the Woodpeckers clinched their first-ever Carolina League title with a sweep that ended the city's 70-year minor league championship drought. The team sealed the crown at Segra Stadium behind a grand slam from first baseman Ben Tryon and strong pitching, and they'll open their title defense next April on the road.
5. School board faces pushback over proposed program changes at E.E. Miller (abc11.com) — Families in Fayetteville's E.E. Miller Elementary community are pushing back against a Cumberland County Schools proposal that would move the Spanish immersion program to W.H. Owen Elementary and end Montessori at Cumberland Road. The plan would also expand Spanish offerings and add new academies at other Fayetteville schools, with the school board set to vote on the changes Thursday.
