1. York County to get another hospital to serve booming area. 'You can see the need' (charlotteobserver.com) — Gastonia-based CaroMont Health plans a new neighborhood hospital in Lake Wylie by 2031, with more complex cases routed to CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia. The project reflects rapid growth just across the state line and adds to a surge of new medical facilities in York and Lancaster counties. Local residents could see expanded emergency and inpatient options within a few years.
2. Two Gastonia men sentenced to federal prison for drug trafficking (qcnews.com) — Two Gastonia men have been sentenced to lengthy federal prison terms for trafficking fentanyl-laced pills and selling guns in Gaston County, including controlled buys at a Gastonia residence. Investigators used a confidential informant to purchase drugs and firearms, later seizing weapons, ammunition, marijuana, and cocaine. Both men pleaded guilty and will be transferred to federal prison custody.
3. Truckers feel record-high diesel prices: 'What can you do?' (mynews13.com) — Diesel prices have surged to record highs in the Charlotte–Gastonia area, topping about $6.21 a gallon and squeezing local trucking companies and, ultimately, consumers. Truckers describe cutting idling, delaying repairs, and rerouting just to cope, warning that the higher costs of moving freight will ripple through to everyday prices in Gastonia and across North Carolina.
