How have they made an impact?
Mrs. Amadou is a Transition Coach from OE Enterprises, whose goal is to prepare students after graduation for post-secondary training, education or employment. Students receive employability skills training weekly in their classrooms throughout the school year.
Mrs. Amadou works with students at Dudley and Southern Guilford high schools. Her caseload includes high school students in the adaptive curriculum and occupational course of study classrooms. She not only teaches and coaches students, she goes above and beyond to help ensure student success in and out of the classroom.
She overheard two students talking about wishing they could get their hair done for the special needs prom, but their families couldn’t afford it. She found a hairdresser willing to do both girls’ hair for free! The hairdresser is also a photographer and added a free photo shoot for the girls. Mrs. Amadou also bought them roses and left them at the registration desk where the prom was held. She also purchased a suit complete with a shirt, tie and shoes for another student who did not have attire for the prom.
This is a small example of how big her heart is for the students and transition program milestones she teaches. Each week that she comes, the students are happy to see her, greet her with kindness and welcome her into the classroom. They know that she has a caring spirit, and she supports them now and in their future.
She collaborates with teachers, counselors and community business partners. She brings in guest speakers to talk about career goals students have been curious about and to share firsthand the paths they took to reach their career goals.
I recommend her for this award because she is invested in the youth she serves not only at the high schools, but also through various volunteer programs serving youth in her church and community. She is an exceptional transition coach and a great asset to our community.
What are three words that best describe them?
Educator. Kind. Firm.
Thank you for all you do, Olivia Amadou!
