City leaders say the initiative, backed by a new policy framework, aims to match rapid job growth with more housing choices, from affordable and workforce units to higher-priced homes by 2030.

Greensboro receives $1.2 million grant to plant trees in high-need areas (abc45.com) β Greensboro has secured a $1.28 million federal grant to plant and maintain thousands of public trees in 32 high-need neighborhoods, with every removed tree replaced. Work will focus on city-owned parks, streets, and properties to add shade, cut heat, and support the GSO2040 goal of becoming North Carolina's greenest city, with planting expected to start in fall 2027.

5. 9-month-old girl died after consuming fentanyl mom kept in her bra: Prosecutors (lawandcrime.com) β A Greensboro mother and grandmother have been charged with second-degree murder and child abuse after a 9βmonthβold girl was found unresponsive and later determined to have fentanyl in her system at their Greensboro home in June 2025. Police say baby monitor footage and toxicology results led to the recent arrests, and both women are being held without bond at the Greensboro Detention Center ahead of an October court date.
