Today's riddle: What did the Buffalo say when his son left? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Suspect charged with shooting, killing Greensboro police officer in Food Lion appointed capital defender (myfox8.com) — A man accused of fatally shooting Greensboro police Officer Michael Horan at a Lawndale Drive Food Lion in 2024 has now been appointed a capital defender as his case moves forward. Prosecutors are pursuing the death penalty, arguing Horan's status as an on-duty officer is an aggravating factor, and a future jury would have to unanimously agree for a death sentence.
2. 'Serious matter': State raises concerns about Greensboro's finances (greensboro.com) — State officials are scrutinizing Greensboro's finances, raising what they call a "serious matter" about how the city manages money and oversight. While details are technical, the review could affect future budgeting, services, and how major projects are funded, so residents should watch closely as the city responds to the state's concerns.
3. 100 Pounds Of Weed Is Hard to Explain Away (rhinotimes.com) — Guilford County investigators say a narcotics probe led to the seizure of about 104 pounds of marijuana, five firearms, and the arrests of two Greensboro men after a search at a Palladium Drive address in Greensboro. The joint task force, which includes Greensboro police and state and federal agencies, has charged both men with multiple felony trafficking and possession offenses.
4. And now, for some good news about our NC schools (johnlocke.org) — A Guilford County standout is getting national attention: The Early College at Guilford in Greensboro was just ranked the best public high school in North Carolina and 23rd in the nation. The piece also spotlights two other innovative North Carolina schools named finalists for the $1 million Yass Prize, underscoring a wave of education recognition across the state.
