UNC Greensboro: UNCG Hosts First-Ever LatinxEd Listening Tour

On Monday, Nov. 29, UNC Greensboro hosted a day-long #SomosNC LatinxEd Listening Tour on campus.

The first-ever tour brought together UNCG students, faculty, and staff to share insights and information with LatinxEd, a non-profit educational initiative in NC providing targeted, multi-year support to Latinx students and immigrant families striving for higher education and greater opportunity.

As a Minority-Serving Institution (MSI) with one of the fastest-growing Latinx student populations in the state, UNCG was selected as a strategic partner by LatinxEd to learn more about the University’s work to support Latinx students.

The event, under the leadership of Yubisela (Yubi) Aranda Sandoval, assistant director for alumni engagement, highlighted the award-winning CHANCE Latinx summer program; CAMINOS Lab; mental health services for Latinx students; DACA; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts; Alianza (UNCG’s Latinx Faculty and Staff Association); personal/professional development; Latinx LIFE; ALPFA; Latinx fraternities and sororities Chi Upsilon Sigma, Lambda Theta Alpha, Lambda Theta Phi; and student organizations Corazon Folklorico, Ritmo Latino, and SALSA.

“Meaningful change happens when we come together toward a common goal,” said Sandoval. “UNCG is leading the way in NC to support, empower and provide a familia for our students and the broader Latinx community. This event was a high-water mark for me as a staff member, an alumna, and a mom. I am excited about the opportunities for the next generation of Latinx students at UNCG. I’m even more proud to be a Spartan today.”
