Over eight months, participants will explore topics like government, economic development, education, and health care through site visits and sessions, culminating in graduation and community-focused group projects next May.
2. Pitt County warrants name Shea Roshawn Bridges in alleged domestic stabbing (wcti12.com) — Pitt County authorities have issued a warrant for 46-year-old Shea Roshawn Bridges of Greenville, accusing her of stabbing someone she was dating and inflicting serious injury. She faces a felony assault charge and a misdemeanor domestic violence charge, is held on a $25,000 secured bond, and is scheduled for a first court appearance on September 16.
3. GoFundMe set up for Greenville domestic violence center facing possible closure (witn.com) — Greenville's Center for Family Violence Prevention, which shelters abuse survivors from Pitt and nearby counties, is at risk of closing this month due to a $160,000 budget shortfall. Leaders say about $40,000 is needed quickly to stay open, and they're asking residents to help through donations, GoFundMe contributions, and shopping at partner thrift store My Sister's Closet in Winterville.
4. EEOC sues Family Dollar, citing pregnancy discrimination against employee (wccbcharlotte.com) — A federal lawsuit claims a Greenville Family Dollar fired a pregnant worker after she reported urgent complications and couldn't immediately provide a doctor's note on New Year's Eve. The EEOC says this violated the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act and is seeking damages and changes to the company's practices that could affect how local employees are treated.
5. MrBeast Joins Lil Baby on 'Dead Fresh' Remix (1051thebounce.com) — Greenville gets a pop-culture spotlight as YouTube star MrBeast films a new "Dead Fresh" remix music video with rapper Lil Baby right in his hometown, including scenes at a local convenience store and near ECU. The collaboration brings national attention and a bit of Friday-night excitement to familiar Greenville streets.
