1. Truist bank cutting 253 jobs in eastern NC (reflector.com) — Truist's decision to sell a $5.5 billion auto loan portfolio will cost 97 Greenville workers their jobs at the Regional Acceptance office on East Fire Tower Road, with layoffs planned for July 2027. Another 156 positions will be cut in Winterville, while the bank says affected employees may receive severance, job search help, and consideration for other roles.
2. Greenville golf tournament raises money for addiction recovery program (wcti12.com) — Golfers gathered at Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville to raise money for Hope is Alive Ministries' local recovery home, which offers long-term housing, meals, and counseling to residents battling addiction. Organizers highlight an 80% success rate among more than 300 graduates and encourage Greenville-area supporters to get involved or donate online to sustain the 18–24 month recovery program.
3. Eastern Carolinians celebrate the first day of fall (witn.com) — Greenville is kicking off fall with Briley's Farm Market opening its Old Pactolus Road farm this Saturday, offering hayrides, a corn maze, rides, and pumpkins. With additional pumpkin lots on East Fire Tower Road and Tenth Street, the working farm invites Greenville families to enjoy cooler weather and a close-up look at local agriculture despite this summer's heat challenges.
4. ECU Health Expo connects providers as mental health resources expand (witn.com) — Mental health providers from across the region met in Greenville for ECU Health's Behavioral Health Expo, aimed at better connecting patients with the right local services. With new psychiatric beds and expanding clinics, organizers say Greenville-based collaboration is key to overcoming rural barriers like transportation and insurance so residents can actually access growing behavioral health resources.
5. Pepsi Spotlight: The Kuechly of Conley, Ben Herdman (witn.com) — A standout D.H. Conley linebacker in Greenville is drawing attention for his huge tackle numbers and even more for his humble, team-first leadership. Beyond anchoring the Vikings' defense, he's organizing teammates to volunteer in the community, emphasizing that he's just one person helping both his team and Greenville. His season goal: an ambitious 120 tackles.
