1. State invites communities to apply for next round of coastal resilience funding (islandfreepress.org) โ New state resilience grants could bring more stormwater and flood-mitigation projects to Hatteras Village and the rest of Hatteras Island, building on several recent RCCP-funded efforts along N.C. 12 and at Rodanthe Harbor. Local input previously helped identify the worst flooding trouble spots, and county officials can now apply by November 10 for design and construction money to tackle additional priority projects.

2. NCDOT schedules November meetings on long-term N.C. 12 access plan (islandfreepress.org) โ NCDOT is inviting Hatteras residents to November meetings on the SAND Plan, a long-term effort to keep N.C. 12 reliable between Oregon Inlet and Rodanthe after repeated storm washouts. One session will be held at the Hatteras Civic Center, and locals can also share comments by phone, email, or an online portal if they can't attend.

3. Dare County announces completion of Buxton beach nourishment project (outerbanksvoice.com) โ Beach nourishment along Buxton and Cape Hatteras National Seashore has finished, adding about 1.9 million cubic yards of sand to better protect N.C. Highway 12 and nearby infrastructure serving Hatteras residents. Crews are now removing equipment, with dune grass planting planned in November to help stabilize the newly widened beach and dune system.

4. NCBBA volunteers clean three miles of beach at Ramp 23 following nor'easter (islandfreepress.org) โ After a recent nor'easter scattered debris along Hatteras Island, 29 North Carolina Beach Buggy Association volunteers cleaned about three miles of beach near Ramp 23, from N.C. 12 to the oceanfront. With help from Cape Hatteras National Seashore staff, they hauled trash and larger storm debris and are planning one more Adopt-A-Beach cleanup in December.

5. Registration open for North Carolina Beach Buggy Association... (thecoastlandtimes.com) โ Surf anglers on Hatteras Island can now sign up for the 17th annual NCBBA Red Drum Tournament, bringing 60 hours of fishing and more than $14,000 in prizes October 21โ24. Participants may fish anywhere between Ramps 23 and 45, choose teams or individual entries, and must register by October 16 online or in person on opening day.
