Kinston police arrest four people over the weekend (wnct.com) — Kinston police report four weekend arrests, including two drug-related traffic stops, a drug complaint that led to identity theft and marijuana charges, and a serious assault during a reported burglary on W. Highland Avenue. The assault victim was treated at ECU Health, while the suspect faces first-degree burglary and assault with a deadly weapon charges.
2. DEPUTIES: Foot chase leads to 30 pounds of pot seized in Lenoir County (witn.com) — Deputies with the Kinston-Lenoir Drug Task Force say they seized about 30 pounds of marijuana after stopping a driver who briefly ran from them in Lenoir County. Follow-up searches on Edwards Avenue in Kinston and near Grifton turned up cash, handguns, and pills, and a 27-year-old suspect was jailed without bond on multiple charges.
3. Multi-Agency Patrol Leads to 116 Charges, Five Arrests in Lenoir County — Neuse News (neusenews.com) — A recent multi-agency traffic crackdown across Lenoir County led to 116 charges, five arrests, and heavy enforcement on dangerous driving that directly affects Kinston-area motorists. With Kinston Police and 11 other agencies involved, officers focused on speeding, license and registration issues, and drug offenses during a five-hour saturation patrol. Residents should expect continued high-visibility enforcement on local roads.
4. A 700,000-square-foot Navy depot in North Carolina will overhaul KC-130 tankers and HH-60W rescue helicopters (newsbreak.com) — Kinston's Global TransPark has just opened a massive 700,000-square-foot Navy maintenance complex that will overhaul KC-130 tankers and HH-60W rescue helicopters. The facility, backed by $350 million in state funding, is expected to create about 400 high-skilled jobs in Kinston and Lenoir County while expanding Fleet Readiness Center East's aviation capabilities.
5. SECU Awards Scholarships to LCC Students — Neuse News (neusenews.com) — A Lenoir Community College student from Kinston has been awarded a $5,000 SECU Foundation "People Helping People" scholarship, paid out over four full-time semesters. The award, supported by the SECU Kinston branch, recognizes students who reflect the credit union's service-focused values and helps cover ongoing college costs right here in Lenoir County.
