The board also advanced a public hearing on a temporary data center moratorium and heard residents' concerns about school conditions, emergency services, and major industrial rezoning proposals.
• Lexington man accused of impersonating a US Marshal on video charged: Deputies (wxii12.com) — A Lexington man has been charged after deputies say he impersonated a U.S. Marshal while trying to return gift cards at the Dollar General on N.C. Highway 150. According to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office, community tips helped identify 68-year-old Christopher Carpenter of Lexington, who turned himself in and was released on a secured bond.
• NASCAR Driver Hit With $850,002 Verdict in 'Criminal Conversation' Affair Lawsuit — Including $1 in Punitive Damages (theautowire.com) — A Davidson County jury in Lexington has ordered NASCAR driver Jennifer Jo Cobb to pay $850,002 to a woman who sued her over an alleged affair with her husband. The verdict, reached at the Lexington courthouse, revives debate over North Carolina's rare "heart balm" laws that still let spouses sue a partner's alleged lover for criminal conversation and alienation of affections.
