Charlotte Police Officer Arrested In South End For Choking His Girlfriend
CMPD Officer Kevin Marin has been charged with kidnapping, strangulation after an early Sunday morning argument with his girlfriend.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrested one of its own in South End early Sunday morning for domestic violence after they say he choked and assaulted his girlfriend during an argument.
Officer Kevin Marin, 25, was arrested after CMPD responded to a domestic disturbance call around 3 a.m. in the 2200 block of Hawkins Street. Responding officers found he had strangled his girlfriend during an argument. They have also charged him with second-degree kidnapping, assault on a female and damage to property.

“Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are expected to conduct themselves to the highest professional standards and will be held accountable when they fail to do so,” Charlotte Police Chief Kerr Putney said in a statement. “At no time will this department tolerate behavior that violates the law or our community’s trust.”

Marin, who has worked for CMPD since September 2015, is now on administrative leave without pay. He is now in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, CMPD said.

The victim was transported to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment and has been released, CMPD said.
