Police Arrest Suspect Wanted For Multiple Thefts From Cars

CMPD arrested a man they say stole from two vehicles early Monday and was wanted for eight similar thefts.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Charlotte police arrested a suspect for two thefts from vehicles early Monday morning, discovering he was wanted on outstanding warrants for eight similar cases.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. Oct. 2, after Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to an alarm call in the 600 block of Cherokee Road. After arriving, the officers heard the sound of car doors and then saw a man with a black backpack. They spoke with him, but then he was released, CMPD said in a statement Monday.

Shortly after the exchange, however, the officers determined that two unlocked cars had been entered -- one on Cherokee Road and another on Huntley Place. They immediately made contact with the man and realized he had given them a fake name earlier in the evening.

He was identified as Courtney Mills, and CMPD arrested him after it was confirmed he had eight outstanding warrants for larceny from vehicles. Mills was also charged by CMPD with two counts of larceny from motor vehicle and two counts of misdemeanor larceny.
