Suspect In Myers Park, Dilworth Sex Assaults Gets Additional Rape Charge

Police say he admitted to two sexual assaults, but now he faces an additional charge of rape.

MYERS PARK, NC -- A Charlotte man who was charged last week with sexual offenses in Myers Park and Dilworth now faces a third charge, this time alleging rape.

Larry Jarome Bailey, 21, was arrested last week after he grabbed and fondled a female jogger early in the morning, allegedly. The Charlotte Observer reported that court records show the new charge stems from a May 30 incident.

The new accusation says Bailey attacked a 33-year-old woman around 9 p.m. on May 30, leaving her with minor injuries. The attack occurred on Ellen Avenue.

Charges allege that in the second incident, Bailey grabbed and fondled a female jogger and fled the scene in a silver Toyota Camry. Witness descriptions of the vehicle led police to find it on Radcliffe Avenue, the Observer reported, where they arrested Bailey and found drugs and drug paraphernalia in the car.

Bailey was charged with first-degree sex offense, kidnapping, sexual battery, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bailey has a history of trouble with the law. According to the Observer, court records show that he had been arrested six times in Mecklenburg County before his arrest last week. The past arrests included charges of resisting arrest and assault on a government employee.

Bailey confessed to the first two assaults, police say.
