• Spike in fishing line injuries alarms coastal wildlife rescuers in Carteret County (witn.com) — Wildlife rescuers at the Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter in Newport are warning residents about a sharp rise in waterbirds injured by discarded or cut fishing line. Staff say they've treated twice the usual number of cases and urge anglers to gently reel in hooked birds, avoid cutting the line, and call OWLS at (252) 240-1200 for help.
