2 Cars Stolen In Plaza Midwood: Crime Blotter

Two vehicles were stolen after a key fob and car keys were left inside the, according to Charlotte police.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Two vehicles were stolen in Plaza Midwood recently after a key fob and car keys were left inside the, according to Charlotte police. There were also three burglaries from unlocked vehicles, and three breaking and enterings or attempted breaking and entering events reported, according to a recent crime blotter.

“Please consider investing in a security system with cameras, be aware of your surroundings and report to the police NOT NEXT DOOR criminal or suspicious activity! The more information we have the more we can help,” Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Eastway Division officers advised Plaza Midwood residents in a recent crime report.

Larceny from Auto

  • 2218 Norcross - ATTEMPT ONLY- 5/22/18
  • 2000 Marguerite - Unlocked Door- 5/19/18
  • 1714 Pecan- Unlocked Door- 5/22/18
  • 1811 Chestnut- Unlocked Door- 5/18/18

Motor Vehicle Theft

  • 2324 Mclintock- Key Fob left in car- 5/23/18
  • 1500 Pecan- Victim had two vehicles, left the keys of stolen vehicle in the center console of the other vehicle.- 5/22/18

Breaking/Entering- Residential

  • Overton Row Apartments 1201 Central- Suspect (does not live on site) broke into the common area of the complex and carried away items. He was later arrested and is being evicted from his current residence across the street.- 5/16/18
  • ATTEMPT- 1812 The Plaza- Suspect attempted to break in through a window and was scared away by victim's dog- 5/23/18
  • ATTEMPT- 2332 McClintock- W/M wearing army pants was observed leaving the patio area of the victim's home

Breaking/Entering- Commercial

  • Construction Site at 1310 Iris Drive- Suspect entered and stole several items from site
  • 2826 Central Ave- Suspect broke in and rummaged through nothing taken

“In 2017 there were approximately 9,400 larcenies from automobiles city wide and approximately 600 in the Eastway Division. 93% are unsolved!” CMPD said.

The following are helpful suggestions to avoid becoming a victim of vehicle burglaries, according to CMPD:

  • Lock your car / Take your keys (66% of vehicle burglaries doors are unlocked)
  • Park in well-lit areas
  • Avoid parking between larger vehicles
  • Take detachable radios and face plates
  • Lock garage door
  • Engrave expensive items
  • Install car alarm
  • Do Not leave Firearms in a vehicle
  • Avoid leave valuables in plain view
  • Remove all valuables items and place in trunk if they must be left inside vehicle
