81-Year-Old Woman Shot In Leg During Overnight Shooting

A gunman opened fire into an a Belmont apartment around midnight Tuesday evening, striking the woman in the leg, police say.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte police made an appeal to a central Charlotte community for information Wednesday morning after an 81-year-old woman was shot in the leg by an unknown gunman who opened fire into her Belmont apartment.

The shooting at the apartment complex in the 1200 block of Harrill Street in Belmont occurred shortly before midnight, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Officers were called to the scene after receiving a report of multiple shots fired.

“When they arrived, these officers observed that one of the apartments in the complex had been shot into multiple times,” a CMPD report said. Inside, they located the woman, who had been struck in the leg by a bullet. She was taken by medic to Carolinas Medical Center-Main and treated for the non life-threatening injury.
