CHARLOTTE, NC — A 58-year-old man was killed Monday night when he was struck by a car as he attempted to cross The Plaza outside of a crosswalk, according to police.

Barry Otis Mahoney was hit by a Honda Accord as he stepped off a median and into the path of the car in the 4400 block of The Plaza, near Eastway Drive, around 10 p.m. July 23.

The victim “was not crossing the street at an intersection, and there was no marked crosswalk or electronic pedestrian crossing signals to aid pedestrians crossing in the roadway,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.
