Woman Killed In Early Morning Shooting Near Uptown

A woman who was shot on North Tryon Street around 4 a.m. Monday died at the hospital, and a homicide investigation is now underway.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police are on the hunt for a male suspect who reportedly shot a woman in the head near Uptown Charlotte early Monday morning. She later died from her injuries at an area hospital, according to Charlotte police.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to the 4 a.m. call in the 900 block of North Tryon Street, and found the female victim with gun shot wounds. She was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with life threatening injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later, CMPD said in a statement.

The victim was shot in the head and the male suspect fled the scene into nearby woods, CMPD told WSOC. One person was taken to police headquarters for questioning, the station reported.

CMPD detectives believe the victim knew the suspect and are currently canvassing the area in search of witnesses.
