On the morning of Jan. 22, 56 year-old Richard Darryl Brown was struck and killed by a CSX train after walking into its path Monday morning in west Charlotte, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, who said he was under the influence of alcohol.

According to a CMPD, Brown was standing on a sidewalk near the track around 9:30 a.m. along South Hoskins Road at Rozzelles Ferry Road when the crossing arms lowered and began flashing for the train. He then walked around the lowered crossing arms onto the track and into the path of the freight train, police said.

Across town, pedestrian Oscar Martinez Morales Jr., was struck and killed in a predawn accident in the 2800 block of Eastway Drive as he attempted to cross the roadway mid-block outside a crosswalk while wearing dark clothing. “Alcohol impairment is suspected with the pedestrian,” CMPD said following the crash.

CMPD asks that anyone with information about any of the incidents call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
