1. New security fencing to go up near Moore Square bus station in effort to reduce loitering (wral.com) — Raleigh is installing security fencing in the breezeway leading to the Moore Square GoRaleigh bus station to cut down on loitering and crime near downtown transit. Police and transit officials say controlled access and added cameras should improve safety, though some riders worry the changes could make the area less accessible, especially for people with disabilities.

2. Raleigh sent hundreds water-rules violation notices. It may have wrongly accused many. (newsobserver.com) — Raleigh water customers are learning that at least 60 drought‑related violation notices were wrongly issued this summer, and an irrigation contractor believes hundreds more may be inaccurate. City officials have rescinded those cases, acknowledged confusion over drip‑irrigation rules, and are now working to clarify the water shortage response plan and publicly correct earlier violation statistics.

3. PHOTOS: Central North Carolina catches sight of SpaceX launch (cbs17.com) — Early Tuesday morning, Raleigh and central North Carolina residents caught a clear view of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket streaking across the sky, carrying 29 Starlink satellites from Florida. Local viewers from Wake, Wayne, and surrounding counties shared photos of the 5:33 a.m. launch, which marked the reusable booster's 37th flight before landing on a droneship in the Atlantic.

4. New Crash Test Renews Calls for Mandatory Side Guards on Tractor-Trailers (freedomforallamericans.org) — Raleigh recently hosted a dramatic crash test showing how side guards on tractor‑trailers can prevent deadly underride crashes, part of the 2026 Southeast Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Summit. The August 11 demonstration contrasted a guarded and unguarded impact, fueling national debate over federal side‑guard mandates, costs, and engineering challenges that could eventually affect trucks traveling through North Carolina.

5. Tech expert warns of back-to-school scams in North Carolina (cbs17.com) — Raleigh parents are being warned about a surge in back‑to‑school scams targeting families across the Triangle, from fake school fees to bogus scholarship offers. Tech experts say spam calls and texts have doubled since June and urge you to verify any school-related payment requests directly with your child's school instead of using links or numbers sent in unexpected messages.
