After the recent drought and mandatory restrictions affecting hundreds of thousands of local customers, officials are weighing conservation, enforcement, and major infrastructure upgrades to keep Falls Lake and Jordan Lake meeting Raleigh's growth.
3. Get ready for the Carolina Culture Food Fest in Raleigh (cbs17.com) — Raleigh food lovers can head to Moore Square on Sunday, Sept. 27 for the free Carolina Culture Food Fest, running from noon to 6 p.m. You'll find food trucks, local chefs, desserts, drinks, and a live cooking competition, plus chances to connect with community organizations and small businesses celebrating Carolinas' culinary traditions.
4. Black August Book Drive's Really Free Book Fair at Moore Square Sept. 20 - Triangle on the Cheap (triangleonthecheap.com) — Raleigh families can pick up free K–12 books at Moore Square on Sunday, September 20, from 2 to 6 p.m., thanks to Black August Book Drive. More than 2,000 books will be given away to inspire reading and creativity, with a special focus on Black and Brown youth but an open invitation to all community members.
5. City of Raleigh Uses Drones, AI Technology to Create Digital Twin (dronelife.com) — Raleigh is building a detailed "digital twin" of the city using drones, sensors, and AI to improve traffic management, development planning, and even park design at places like Dorothea Dix Park. City staff say the 3D data will guide event planning, tree preservation, and future building locations while helping residents visualize growth, climate impacts, and transit changes more clearly.
