• Family sues NCDOT after Cleveland woman dies in fairgrounds crosswalk in collision with Lancaster driver (sclawyersweekly.com) — A year after a 79-year-old volunteer was fatally struck in the Marion Street crosswalk by the Cleveland County Fairgrounds, her family is suing NCDOT, arguing the crossing was unsafe and poorly marked. Since the lawsuit was filed, Shelby officials have added new striping, pedestrian signs, and lowered the speed limit, and the family hopes further changes will prevent future tragedies.
   

• Educationally Relevant Related Services: Focus on Physical Therapy (nc.gov) — Educators and therapists in Shelby can attend a full-day training on educationally relevant physical therapy at 400 West Marion Street on Friday, October 23. The session will cover evaluation tools, IEP collaboration, and the new APTA Code of Ethics, with time for participant questions. Attendees can register in advance and even choose specific content modules for CEU credit.
   

• James Franklin "Jamie" Allen (shelbyinfo.com) — Shelby residents are mourning James Franklin “Jamie” Allen, 91, who passed away September 27 at Wendover Hospice in town. A retired maintenance mechanic who worked for Monsanto and Parker Hannifin, he was known for his love of travel, gardening, sports, and staying active, and will be laid to rest with his wife at Grover City Cemetery.
