• NC Highway Patrol reports multiple fatal collisions on Labor Day weekend (outerbanksvoice.com) — A 19-year-old Wake Forest resident, Adriano James Salas, died Sunday when his car left Interstate 587 near Farmville and struck a bridge pillar, one of several deadly Labor Day weekend crashes in eastern North Carolina. Troopers say speed contributed to the wreck, and separate collisions in Pitt, Beaufort, and Martin counties left another man dead and several people injured, including a firefighter and an ambulance patient.
   

• It took hours for searchers to find body of teen who drowned in Falls Lake (newsobserver.com) — Emergency crews, including the Wake Forest Fire Department, spent about four hours searching Falls Lake in northern Wake County Monday before recovering the body of a teenage boy who drowned near Sandling Beach. Authorities say the teen went underwater while swimming or possibly after falling from a jet ski and never resurfaced, and his identity has not yet been released.
