• Car slams into, heavily damages home, autos (journalpatriot.com) — A Wilkesboro-area family's 90-year-old home on Winkler Mill Road was left uninhabitable after a Dodge Charger went airborne, crushed three parked vehicles, and smashed into the house just outside town limits. No one in the Brock family was hurt, but the driver suffered serious injuries, damage is estimated around $263,000, and the family is relying on church, Red Cross, and insurance help.
   

• Helene caused improved storm readiness (journalpatriot.com) — Wilkes County and Wilkesboro agencies have upgraded equipment, radios, and power systems after Tropical Storm Helene exposed major vulnerabilities, with local fire departments adding ATVs, drones, and better communication tools. North Wilkesboro is also moving ahead on federally reimbursed repairs to damaged greenway sections and park embankments, while Duke Energy's new "self-healing" grid technology aims to reduce future outages for area residents.
