Today's riddle: What gets bigger the more you take away? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Advisory: Gang Prevention and Intervention Task Force Meets in Winston-Salem on Sept. 1 (ncdps.gov) — State leaders and local law enforcement will gather at Winston-Salem's Benton Convention Center on Sept. 1 for a public meeting of the North Carolina Gang Prevention and Intervention Task Force. From 1–4 p.m., residents can hear safety and partnership panels featuring Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough and Winston-Salem Police Chief William Penn, plus updates on enforcement, intervention, and prevention work.
2. Forsyth County Sheriff's Office swears in 3 new K-9s (myfox8.com) — Three new K-9s have joined the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office in Winston-Salem, including Jade, a patrol and narcotics dog carrying on the legacy of a deputy killed in the line of duty. Her emotional backstory and the tracking skills of brothers Charlie and Farley strengthen local efforts to find missing people and support juvenile investigations.
3. Ignacio Buse tops Arthur Fery, becomes youngest Winston-Salem champ (statenews.net) — A rising Peruvian tennis star just made history at the Winston-Salem Open, becoming the tournament's youngest champion at 22 after a straight-sets win over Britain's Arthur Fery. His victory in North Carolina caps a breakout season that already includes an ATP 500 title in Hamburg and cements his place in the world's top 35 players.
4. Antiguan-born Rev. Dr. Dion Christopher elected bishop of Moravian Church (caribbeannationalweekly.com) — Winston-Salem recently hosted the Southern Province synod where Antiguan-born Rev. Dr. Dion T.A. Christopher was elected a bishop of the Moravian Church. His long ministry spans the Caribbean, California, the Virgin Islands, and U.S. congregations, and he'll be consecrated in South Florida next month while continuing to influence Moravian leadership that includes ties to this region.
5. Realtor.com ranking highlights Carolinas, Boise for competitively priced new homes (tradersunion.com) — Winston-Salem makes Realtor.com's top 10 metros where new homes are competitively priced against existing houses, signaling relatively strong affordability for local buyers. The ranking, driven largely by Southern markets, suggests builders here and across the Carolinas are helping ease tight resale inventory as migration into North Carolina continues to climb.
