Winston-Salem man faces more than a dozen felonies from May shooting on Dellabrook Road (myfox8.com) — A Winston-Salem teen is jailed without bond, facing 13 felony charges after police say he fired multiple shots into an occupied home on Dellabrook Road in late May, miraculously injuring no one. Residents near Dellabrook Road may notice ongoing court activity as his case moves toward a disposition hearing on November 30 in Forsyth County.
   

2. Crash damages water main, cuts off water to Winston-Salem apartment complex: Police (wfmynews2.com) — Residents at the Arcadian Apartments on Franciscan Drive in Winston-Salem are without water after a single-vehicle crash damaged the main supplying the complex near Peters Creek Parkway. City fire crews, utilities, and police are working on repairs, but officials have not said how long service will be out or whether anyone was hurt, and they're asking witnesses to share information.
   

3. Four new members join Elon Alumni Board (elon.edu) — A Winston-Salem resident and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist physician assistant, Caroline York-Ingram, has been selected to join the Elon Alumni Board for a three-year term. Her new role strengthens ties between local healthcare professionals and Elon University, as the board advises campus leaders on strategic issues and meets next on October 9 during Homecoming & Reunion Weekend.
   

4. Forsyth County Sheriff's Office launches C.A.R.E. sticker program (myfox8.com) — Forsyth County deputies have launched a new C.A.R.E. sticker program to help first responders quickly recognize residents who are autistic or hearing-impaired, improving communication during emergencies. Winston-Salem families can pick up these identification stickers at the Opal Autism Center on Ashleybrook Lane, giving them a simple tool to alert officers and medics before interactions escalate.
   

5. Why Workforce Pell Programs Have Been Slow to Materialize (chronicle.com subscription) — Winston-Salem's Forsyth Technical Community College is on the front lines of rolling out new federal Workforce Pell Grants, but leaders say complex rules and tight timelines are slowing progress. Local residents interested in welding or commercial driver's license training could eventually see more short-term programs covered by aid, yet colleges must first overhaul data systems, partnerships, and state approvals.
