Man accused of killing woman in Winston-Salem taken into custody in Georgia (myfox8.com) — Winston-Salem police say a man accused of fatally shooting a 35-year-old woman in August has been arrested in Marietta, Georgia and charged with murder. Investigators describe the incident as not random and say another person shot the suspect in apparent self-defense. Authorities are still asking anyone with information, photos, or video to contact Winston-Salem Crime Stoppers or the police tip line.
2. Routine maintenance may affect water pressure, color in Winston-Salem, Rural Hall areas (abc45.com) — If you live in parts of Winston-Salem or near Rural Hall, you may see lower water pressure or discolored tap water Oct. 5–8 while a Rural Hall tank is serviced. Officials say the water remains safe, but recommend delaying laundry with light fabrics and reporting issues to CityLink or signing up for utility alerts online.
3. Carolina Classic Fair returns with rides, fair food and agricultural traditions (abc45.com) — Winston-Salem's Carolina Classic Fair is underway at the Fairgrounds through Oct. 11, with detailed hours, admission prices, ride wristband deals, and multiple discount days that can save you money. Beyond nearly 50 rides, you'll find agricultural exhibits, petting zoos, special theme days, and even a Joey Chestnut meet-and-greet, making it a big fall outing for local families.
4. Meet capybaras, kangaroos and more at the Carolina Classic Fair in Winston-Salem (myfox8.com) — Winston-Salem's Carolina Classic Fair is highlighting its animal attractions this year, from capybaras and kangaroos to a cup-stealing llama and a colorful chameleon. Local families can visit the petting zoo, feed Delilah the camel, and meet new arrival Elmo the Valais Blacknose sheep through Oct. 11. Organizers encourage visitors to check the fair website for tickets and schedules before heading out.
5. South Korea's CorestemChemon Launches U.S. Operations in Winston-Salem's Innovation Quarter (biobuzz.io) — Winston-Salem's Innovation Quarter just landed CorestemChemon's new U.S. base, bringing high-level biotech jobs and potential clinical trials for ALS and other conditions closer to local patients. Partnering with Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine, the company aims to grow research, development, and eventually manufacturing ties that could strengthen the city's role in regenerative medicine.
