📰 News we're reading

1. Citing 'disorderly and illegal behavior,' downtown Fargo group will move 3 benches from Broadway (inforum.com) — Three public benches along Broadway in downtown Fargo are slated to be moved after repeated reports of public drinking, harassment and other illegal behavior, under authority delegated to the Downtown Community Partnership. City leaders and homelessness advocates say they want to balance safety, public seating, and services for vulnerable residents, while Fargo Police continue responding to frequent incidents near the benches.

2. GoFundMe set up for Fargo teen critically injured in motorcycle crash (valleynewslive.com) — A 19-year-old Fargo motorcyclist, Isaac Putney, remains in critical condition after a high-speed multi-vehicle crash in south Fargo, and his family has launched a GoFundMe to help with medical and living costs. Investigators say a Chrysler fleeing a Cass County deputy drove the wrong way on South University Drive, striking Putney's motorcycle and another car, leaving him facing multiple surgeries and a long recovery.

3. Fargo Commissioners hear public input on 2027 preliminary budget (valleynewslive.com) — Fargo residents just got their first look at the city's 2027 preliminary budget, a $147 million plan that includes partial funding for new police officers and support for local arts. Commissioners stressed they can only cut, not add, at this stage and urged residents to stay engaged before the next finance committee meeting on Sept. 23.

4. Fire crews knock down shop fire near fairgrounds in West Fargo (kfgo.com) — Fire crews from West Fargo and surrounding departments, including Fargo Fire, quickly knocked down a late-morning shop fire near the fairgrounds in West Fargo, where a burning semi spread flames through a building. No one was injured, but investigators are still determining the cause and tallying damage, a concern for many Fargo-area residents who work or travel near that industrial area.

5. Monarchs Start Fast and Finish Strong, Take Opening Game in Fargo (monarchsbaseball.com) — Fargo baseball fans saw a thriller at Newman Outdoor Field as the Redhawks briefly grabbed the lead on a Dillon Thomas grand slam before falling 6–4 to Kansas City in Game 1 of the West Division Championship. With the Monarchs up in the series, Fargo now faces a must-win Game 2 at home Wednesday night.
