The North Dakota Association of Counties (NDACo) honored a current Cass County employee and a former Commissioner in a ceremony Monday during the NDACo Annual Conference in Bismarck.

The annual Excellence in County Government Awards honor those who have shown exceptional dedication, leadership and involvement for the good of all counties. In the County Employee category, Ben Prather, Cass County Vector Control Director, was chosen. Mr. Prather is known as an exemplary employee, serving as Vector Control Director since 2009, after several years as a seasonal employee. He has expanded, modernized, and vastly increased efficiency in the department. He created a smartphone interface for data entry and facilitated the expansion of Cass County Vector Control to include the City of Moorhead, MN. He also maintains the Vector Control website, Facebook page, and Twitter account. Ben has also been very active in national and regional vector control associations.
The Hall of Honor award recognizes former officials who have left their mark on county government over the years. Scott Wagner, former Cass County Commissioner, was honored for his legacy in Cass County and across the state. Mr. Wagner served from 2000 to 2012. He was elected to the ND County Commissioners Association Board of Directors in 2003 and served as their president in 2007. In Cass County, he was involved with county response during five flood fights and was deeply involved in several major county building projects, particularly at the courthouse and jail. He sat on the National Association of Counties Community and Economic Development Steering Committee, ND Supreme Court Facilities Committee, and the ND Insurance Reserve Fund Board of Directors.
