Fargo Native American Commission Hosting Virtual Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration

The Native American Commission will co-host the fifth annual Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebration on October 12, 2020. This year, all programming will be virtual and livestreamed to The Indigenous Association Facebook and webpage, indgns.org.

The opening ceremony begins at 10 a.m. and will include the presentation of this year’s Gladys Ray Award and the groundbreaking of NDSU’s new Grandmother Earth’s Gift of Life Garden location. The afternoon’s events will be livestreamed, including traditional art projects, storytelling, music, and more. In addition, from 12-2 p.m., a cultural competency “lunch & learn” on intergenerational trauma geared toward professionals with Indigenous clients will occur.

At 5 p.m., there will be a keynote address including Sharon White Bear on the creation of Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Fargo, and Tyrel Iron Eyes on Lakota language revitalization. Following at 5:45 p.m., there will be a live Q&A panel moderated by Heather Keeler, where audience members are invited to submit questions for the keynote guests.
