49 Ohioans Die Of COVID-19 In Past 24 Hours
Ohio has seen a steady increase in new COVID-19 cases and deaths this week.
COLUMBUS, OH — Ohio hit an eight-day high in COVID-19 deaths on Friday, when 49 Ohioans died due to complications caused by the virus.
That's the second-most COVID-19 deaths recorded in a 24-hour period over the past three weeks. Only Sept. 3, when 50 Ohioans died, saw more coronavirus deaths.
COVID-19 cases were also up again on Friday. Health officials confirmed 1,240 cases in the past 24 hours, up versus the state's three-week average of 1,061 cases per day.

Gov. Mike DeWine was worried prior to the Labor Day holiday that Ohioans would flout social distancing rules and gather in groups over the long weekend. Typically, it takes five to 10 days to see a corresponding spike in COVID-19 metrics.
