500,000 Ohioans Have Started COVID-19 Vaccine Process

The COVID-19 vaccine became available to the select members of the public for the first time this week.

COLUMBUS, OH — More than 500,000 Ohioans have now started the COVID-19 vaccination process, the state health department announced Thursday.

As of Jan. 21, 500,176 people have received at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Health officials began administering the vaccines to Ohio's octogenarians (and older) this week. Front-line health care workers and nursing home residents and staff were already receiving the vaccine.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, 4.28 percent of Ohio's population have started the COVID-19 vaccination process. The Buckeye State has approximately 11.8 million residents, according to Census data.

  • New cases: 7,271
  • New deaths: 109
  • New hospitalizations: 306
  • New ICU admissions: 35

The Ohio Department of Health estimates that 712,864 Ohioans have contracted COVID-19 and recovered.

Approximately 500,176 Ohioans have started the COVID-19 vaccination process, according to the state health department. That represents nearly 4.3 percent of the total Ohio population.
