No one else was hurt and officers didn't return gunfire, the chief said.

TOLEDO, OH — A police officer was shot in the face during a drug raid in Toledo and was critically hurt, police said. The officer was standing about 90 feet away when SWAT officers knocked on a door and tried to enter the home early Thursday, city Police Chief George Kral said.

A man inside the home fired several shots through the door, he said. No one else was hurt and officers didn't return gunfire, the chief said. The man was taken into custody and is being questioned.

The injured officer was shot near the mouth and will need major reconstructive surgery, Kral said. A police spokesman described the officer's injuries as "very serious," but not believed to be life threatening.
