COLUMBUS, OH — Health officials confirmed nearly 1,400 new COVID-19 cases in Ohio on Sunday.

Over the past 24 hours, at least 1,378 people were confirmed as having contracted COVID-19, the Ohio Department of Health announced. Over the past three weeks, Ohio has averaged 990 new COVID-19 cases per day.

At least 22 people died due to complications from COVID-19 on Sunday, up versus the state's three-week average of 17 deaths per day.

Gov. Mike DeWine has spent previous weeks urging Ohioans to don masks and maintain social distance from others. Currently, 12 Ohio counties are classified as "red," meaning there is "very high" spread of the virus locally.
