Major Ohio Companies Announce Layoffs This Week
L Brands and ArcelorMittal both announced mass layoffs this week.
CLEVELAND — More than a dozen companies, including ArcelorMittal and Columbus-based L Brands, announced mass layoffs this week, according to filings of the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.
L Brands, which operates Victoria's Secret and Bath & Body Works, is laying off 15 percent of its workforce at its home office in Columbus. The company is laying off approximately 850 employees across in central Ohio footprint.
The layoffs will be permanent.

"Decisions relating to our workforce are incredibly difficult and not taken lightly, but these actions are necessary to best position our company for the long-term. On behalf of the Board and management team, I’d like to extend our deepest appreciation to the impacted associates for their contributions and dedication over the years," said Andrew Meslow, CEO of L Brands in a statement.
ArcelorMittal is laying off 450 workers at its Cleveland facility. The company said the layoffs will be "indefinite," but are expected to last at least six months.

"Many of the company’s customers closed their operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite their re-openings, business conditions continue to be depressed during the pandemic, with no significant improvement in demand for the products we manufacture foreseen in the near term. This has had a direct impact on our business," ArcelorMittal said in a letter to the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.
