Massillon Hospital Shooting: Doctor Shot, Gunman Dead, Cops Say
Breaking: Affinity Medical Center and nearby schools were placed on lockdown.

MASSILLON, OH — One person was killed and a second was injured in what appeared to be an attemted murder-suicide in the parking lot of Affinity Medical Center in Massillon, authorities said.
A man shot a doctor just after 2 p.m. Monday and then turned the gun on himself, The Independent newspaper reported. The shooter is dead.
A man who lives near the hospital said he heard about six shots ring out.

Chief Keith Moser told the newspaper the doctor was believed to have been shot twice and was undergoing surgery. The extent of his injuries weren't immediately known.
The shooter was a 50-year-old man who was not from Massillon but hailed from the area, police told the newspaper.

Capt. Bill Peel told WKYC-TV that the doctor was returning to his car at the time. Regarding reports of an active shooter situation, he said it was hasty, probably prompted by a car that speed away immediately after the gunshots rang out. The driver had a young child in the car and tried to get to safety.
The identities of the shooter and doctor weren't immediately released.
