Ohio Among Most Obese States In Nation: Report
A new report finds that Ohio's population is among the 15 most overweight groups in the nation.
OHIO — Ohio has one of the most obese or overweight populations in America, according to a new report.
WalletHub studied all 50 states and the District of Columbia to determine which states had the most obese residents. The study included 31 key metrics, ranging from share of overweight and obese population, to sugary-beverage consumption among adolescents, to obesity-related health care costs.
According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, 34.8 percent of Ohioans self-reported as overweight. That's one of the highest rates of overweight populationoverweight population in the nation.

WalletHub found that Ohio is one of the 15 most overweight states in the nation. According to WalletHub, here are Ohio's key rankings (1 is the worst possible ranking, 25 is average):
- 28th – Percent of Overweight Adults
- 15th – Percent of Obese Adults
- 23rd – Percent of Overweight Children
- 16th – Percent of Obese Children
- 18th – Percent of Physically Inactive Adults
- 12th – Percent of Adults Eating Less than 1 Serving of Fruits/Vegetables per Day
- 14th – Percent of Adults with Type 2 Diabetes
- 17th – Percent of Adults with Hypertension

Obesity isn't a problem just for Ohio adults. The Buckeye State has one of the highest obesity rates in the nation for children ages 10 to 17, according to a new study by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Roughly one in seven Ohio kids are considered obese.
