Ohio Coronavirus Cases Down; Hospitalizations, Deaths Up

Coming off Labor Day weekend, health officials confirmed fewer than 700 new COVID-19 cases among Ohioans.

COLUMBUS, OH — Newly confirmed COVID-19 cases were down on Tuesday following a three-day Labor Day weekend.

In the past 24 hours, officials have confirmed 656 new COVID-19 cases among Ohioans, the state health department announced. That's down versus the state's average of 1,051 new COVID-19 cases per day.

While new cases were down, deaths and hospitalizations related to the virus were up.

On Tuesday, at least 22 Ohioans died from COVID-19, health officials confirmed. That's just slightly higher than the state's average of 20 COVID-19-related deaths per day.

At least 80 Ohioans have also been hospitalized because of coronavirus in the past 24 hours. Of those, eight Ohioans have been admitted to intensive care units for treatment of COVID-19.

  • New cases: 656
  • New deaths: 22
  • New hospitalizations: 80
  • New ICU admissions: 8
