Ohio Hits New Four-Month High For Coronavirus Deaths

Health officials also confirmed more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases among Ohioans on Tuesday.

COLUMBUS, OH — Ohio hit a new three-week high for COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday.

In the past 24 hours, health officials have confirmed at least 87 deaths caused by COVID-19. Over the past three weeks, the Ohio Department of Health has confirmed 24 COVID-19-related deaths per day.

This is the third highest COVID-19 death tally since the pandemic began, Gov. Mike DeWine said Tuesday. It is the most deaths recorded since early May. DeWine said all the deaths may not have occurred in the past 24 hours, but were reported in the past 24 hours.

Officials also confirmed 1,001 new COVID-19 cases among Ohioans on Tuesday. That's down slightly versus the state's average of 1,095 new cases per day. The state's other key COVID-19 metrics were up Tuesday though.

At least 103 Ohioans have been hospitalized with COVID-19 symptoms in the past 24 hours. Fourteen of those Ohioans have entered intensive care units for treatment.

  • New cases: 1,001
  • New deaths: 87
  • New hospitalizations: 103
  • New ICU admissions: 14
