COLUMBUS, OH — Ohio is purchasing 2 million at-home, rapid COVID-19 tests, Gov. Mike DeWine announced this week.

The antigen tests, developed by Abbott, will detect the virus when a person is most infectious. Results of the test are delivered in minutes and do not require a lab for processing.

“Abbott has been a valued partner throughout this pandemic and this new partnership will help us continue aggressive testing at colleges and universities, and pursue access to rapid testing in every county in Ohio,” DeWine said.

The tests will primarily be used for people utilizing telehealth services, DeWine said. The tests will be used in conjunction with eMed, a virtual health services provider. eMed will deliver test results to patients through the NAVICA app.

“These tests combined with the telehealth solutions provided by eMed will provide equitable access to testing for those who may not be able to access traditional testing because of their working hours, have mobility or transportation issues, or have caregiving responsibilities," DeWine said.
