Ohio To Receive Nearly 99,000 COVID-19 Vaccines This Week

By Christmas, Ohio will have received approximately 420,000 COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna.

COLUMBUS, OH — Ohio will receive 98,475 COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer this week, Gov. Mike DeWine announced Tuesday.

The state should receive approximately 123,000 more COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer next week, the governor said. Ohio could also receive 201,900 COVID-19 vaccines from Moderna next week.

"Combined, Ohio should receive more than 420,000 vaccines by Christmas," DeWine said.

During the week of New Year's Eve, Ohio should receive an additional 148,000 COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer and an additional 89,000 vaccines from Moderna.

Dr. Kevin Casey, chief clinical officer for Mercy Health - Toledo, spoke to DeWine as doctors at his hospital began being vaccinated.

"This is the beginning of the end, but it is not the end. We need to continue to protect our healthcare giver and our community," Casey said.

Vaccinations will continue even as COVID-19 continues to cause near-record hospitalizations in Ohio. More than 600 Ohioans entered hospitals for COVID-19 treatment in the past day, while 74 people were admitted to intensive care units around the state.

Here are all of Tuesday's numbers:

  • New cases: 8,755
  • New deaths: 103
  • New hospitalizations: 614
  • New ICU admissions: 74
