Ohio Crosses 200K Coronavirus Cases, Including 2,116 On Monday

The cases announced Monday are higher than the rolling 21-day average and state health officials also announced 11 new coronavirus deaths.

COLUMBUS, OHIO – State health officials announced more than 2,100 new confirmed positive cases of the coronavirus on Monday along with 11 new deaths, which takes Ohio’s total number of confirmed cases to more than 200,000 since the pandemic began in the spring.

The Department of Health data indicated that since the agency's report on Sunday, another 2,116 positive cases have been confirmed, which is above the 21-day rolling average of 1,917. Although the state’s 11 new deaths are below the three-week average of 14, the new deaths that were reported takes the state’s death toll to 5,217 since the pandemic began.

State officials also announced Monday that 1,406 people remained hospitalized with the coronavirus, including 408 that are in intensive care and 216 that are on ventilators. The Department of Health announced that 159,877 are believed to have recovered from the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.

In total, 200,231 people across the state have been reported to have tested positive at a time when the number of coronavirus positive cases in several stages as continued to soar in recent days.

On Monday. Gov. Mike DeWine said that in Ohio, the recent surge in confirmed cases is based on people's activities in private settings rather than pinning the increase on businesses, restaurants or schools being open.

"The spread is not so much in workplaces, it’s not so much in classrooms. … It’s when people are doing more casual things, getting together,” DeWine said during an appearance in Cleveland on Monday, the Columbus Dispatch reported.
