1. Bath resident shares family's Holocaust travails in debut book (scriptype.com) — An Akron-area neighbor, Bath resident David Minc, has turned his family's Holocaust survival stories into a new book while staying deeply involved with Temple Israel Akron, Leadership Akron and the Summit County Historical Society. He hopes local institutions, including the Akron-Summit Council on Holocaust & Genocide Education, will host programs around the book to spark empathy and interest in family history.
2. 7 Akron houses set for demolition; two get extra time for repairs (signalakron.org) — Akron's Housing Appeals Board has ordered seven homes demolished and granted short extensions for repairs on two others, affecting neighborhoods from South Akron to Summit Lake and Goodyear Heights. Residents and board members debated demolition costs, corporate ownership, and why more support isn't going to homeowners trying to save aging properties.
3. LeBron James's Taco Tuesday Tradition Is Even More Real Than You Think (juliescafebakery.com) — LeBron James's long-running Taco Tuesday ritual has grown into a tradition that directly benefits Akron families connected to his I Promise School. During the pandemic, his foundation turned the weekly taco night into meal-kit deliveries for about 1,300 people, extending a fun family habit into a steady act of community support while his public Taco Tuesday persona exploded online and in arenas.
4. Akron celebrates Black Business Awareness Month (spectrumnews1.com) — Akron residents just wrapped up a Black Business Awareness Month celebration that spotlighted local Black-owned enterprises and their impact on the city's economy. Vendors, the Black Chamber of Commerce of Summit County, and Huntington Bank teamed up for a Black Wall Street–inspired marketplace, aiming to close wealth gaps and build ongoing support for small businesses here.
