Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank selects longtime employee as next president, CEO (cleveland.com) — A longtime Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank leader who lives in Akron's Highland Square will become the organization's next president and CEO on Jan. 1, 2027, guiding services that support Summit and surrounding counties. She's asking local residents to volunteer or donate, especially during Hunger Action Month, as demand for food assistance stays high while government support has dropped significantly.
   

2. Real estate transfers in Greater Akron for early February 2026 (kentucky.com) — If you're watching Akron's housing market, this week's Summit County transfer report shows dozens of city properties changing hands, from modest homes under $50,000 to a Sunset View Drive sale topping $560,000. The list also highlights top-dollar deals across nearby communities like New Franklin, Fairlawn, and Stow, offering a snapshot of early February 2026 prices around Greater Akron.
   

3. Junior ROTC instructor at Akron school accused of throat-punching student (news5cleveland.com) — Akron Public Schools have suspended without pay a Junior ROTC instructor and begun termination proceedings after he allegedly struck a male cadet in the throat at East Community Learning Center. Board leaders, the teachers union, and Akron Police all address next steps, including due process rights and the fact that no police report has yet been filed.
   

4. Ohio's METRO RTA Turns Electric Buses into Mobile Power Sources at PorchROKR (metro-magazine.com) — Akron's 2026 PorchROKR festival got a high-tech boost when METRO RTA used three battery-electric buses to power the main stages and offer cooling, charging, and Park & Ride service for about 1,000 riders. The agency says the success in Highland Square and Downtown Akron could pave the way for using these buses as mobile power and shelter during future community events or emergencies.
   

5. 'Beetlejuice' set to make two nights of musical mayhem in Akron (news-herald.com) — Akron theater fans can catch the national tour of the 'Beetlejuice' musical at E.J. Thomas Hall on Sept. 22 and 23, with tickets starting at $38. A Baldwin Wallace graduate serving as associate music director describes how the spooky, funny show also explores grief and death in a surprisingly thoughtful way.
