Union leaders say the deal came after workers rejected an earlier offer and prepared to strike, potentially averting major disruption to local bus service.
3. Pedestrian killed, 2 drivers hurt in multi-vehicle Akron crash; impairment suspected (cleveland19.com) — A pedestrian was killed and two drivers seriously injured in a high-speed, multi-vehicle crash early Saturday at West Market Street and South Highland Avenue in Akron. Police say a westbound Chrysler 300 struck a 35-year-old man crossing the street, then hit another car and parked vehicles, and investigators suspect speed and possible impairment played a role.
4. SpongeBob, boomboxes and block parties mark the 26.2 marathon miles through Akron (signalakron.org) — Thousands of runners and neighbors filled Akron streets for the FirstEnergy Akron Marathon, with block parties, music, and kid-friendly themes lining the 26.2-mile route from downtown to Northwest Akron. Residents turned Wiltshire, Fairfax, Highland Square, and Merriman Valley into cheering sections, highlighting how the race has become a major community tradition that showcases the city and brings families together.
