1. Garrett Boys goin' back to Akron no matter what their song says (newsbreak.com) — Akron music fans can catch the Tennessee folk trio Garrett Boys at Musica on East Market Street on Nov. 17, with tickets priced at $15. The band, whose novelty song jokingly swears they'll never return to Akron, is touring behind their debut album and will also perform in Studio C at 91.3 The Summit.
2. Flock cameras help crack Akron murder case, police say (fox8.com) — Akron police say Flock license-plate cameras were key in identifying a suspect vehicle and arresting a man now charged with aggravated murder in the May shooting death of Dylante Richardson on Kenmore Boulevard. The suspect was already in the Summit County Jail on an unrelated robbery charge when detectives connected him to the case. Police leaders say the technology and investigators' persistence are helping address violent crime in Akron neighborhoods.
3. Akron sewage deal: What replaces the $300M treatment plant (cleveland.com) — Akron is weighing a revised federal agreement that could scrap a $300 million sewage-treatment facility while tightening limits on how often untreated overflows can enter local waterways. The proposal would expand disinfection at the city's existing plant into April and November and require extensive monitoring and modeling. Residents will have a chance to comment before a federal judge decides whether Akron can meet new standards without building the costly facility.
4. Rep. Sykes Hosts 2026 Women in Leadership Conference (house.gov) — Women across Akron and Ohio's 13th District gathered at the Akron Art Museum for Rep. Emilia Sykes' Women in Leadership Conference, featuring panels with national and local leaders. Attendees discussed entrepreneurship, public service, and labor issues, and could connect directly with Sykes' constituent services team for help with federal agency problems.
5. Akron Posts Strong Performances in the Pool and Diving Boards vs. BGSU on Friday (getsomemaction.com) — Akron Zips women's swimming and diving opened their season at home with a hard-fought win over Bowling Green, powered by standout races from Leah Nebraska, Abbey Cronin, Claire Cox and Avery Knight. Local fans saw strong depth in backstroke, breaststroke, distance events and diving at Oliver J. Ocasek Natatorium. The team now turns to hosting the Zips Classic next weekend in Akron.
