Ohio Connections Academy Recognizes Akron Student

Star Student Award recognizes students for achievement in and out of the virtual classroom

Sam Cochran of Akron, was recently named one of Ohio Connections Academy’s (OCA) Star Students for the month of November in recognition of his academic achievements and leadership.

Sam, a sixth grader at the statewide online public charter school, was nominated by his teacher Ms. Shebak in recognition of his efforts to stay on task while being new to the school. As a Star Student, Sam will be presented a certificate recognizing his achievement and be profiled in Ohio Connections Academy’s student newsletter and on the school’s website.

Sam came to Ohio Connections Academy this year because his mother, Jen, wanted him in a learning environment that would be consistent when so many things are uncertain due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She said the transition for Sam was a little challenging, but he has been able to set a daily routine. “OCA is a very organized school and supports you while it challenges you to do your best,” Jen said. “The friendly teachers and staff as well as the structure of the lessons push you to go above and beyond.”
